What is Adaptive PE?

Adaptive physical education (PE) within the school setting is a specialized form of PE that is designed to meet the needs of students with physical disabilities. Our Adaptive PE programs are developed to help these students participate in physical activity to the best of their ability and to develop their physical skills, such as balance, coordination, and strength. Our Adaptive PE programs include modified sports and games, as well as individualized exercise programs, and are led by a certified adaptive PE teacher and regular PE teachers. These programs may take place in a regular PE class with the rest of the student body, or in a separate adaptive PE class, depending on the needs and abilities of the students. The ultimate goal of adaptive PE within the school setting is to help students with physical disabilities develop their physical skills and participate in physical activity in a safe and inclusive environment.
